Why are we obsessed with death

dsc_0093

For as long as we have been aware of our own existence humans have been obsessed with death. We have little knowledge of what happens when we die. Do we stop existing or go to some form of utopia? Are we aware of life after death?

As a result of this unknown and our fear we have become obsessed with the dead, some more than others. While studying for my degree I did a dissertation on the information you can gain from mummified remains compared to what you can find out from skeletal remains. I had to learn more about death including what happened and what affects if a body decomposes or mummifies. I enjoyed learning so much and I was shocked by how they live and died.

We preserve bodies, even today, from medical school cadavers, medical oddity exhibits and Dr Gunther Von Hagen’s macabre exhibitions may turn some peoples stomach it prove that humans want to learn everything it shows the internal working of the human body, a medical marvel in itself.

We have an entire industry dedicated to the preservation of human remains though it is done in order to allow people to more the dead and provide the time to organise burial of the remains the truth is that embalming sometimes lasts several years, which in murder cases can be a blessing but in others it can be harmful to others in so many ways.

Whenever you are in a car and you pass an accident a large percentage of people will look whether it be morbid curiosity or out of concern it is human nature to want to know what out end it.

Our fear of death causes us to be obsessed with controlling it, some do all they can to live for as long as they can, others chose to end their suffering if they are plagued with a chronic or terminal illness. I can’t blame either of them.

Though I am not a member of a mainstream religion, nor am I member of a coven, (I am pagan) I do believe in an afterlife, for some they are spirited into a peaceful existence, others stay here, whether it be due to not wanting to leave family, fixing something that went wrong. I have had experienced several event’s that solidify my belief in ghosts, I am a second generation Witch (Pagan) and a second generation medium. I use a scrying stone to commune with the dead and I’ve done it a handful of times.

My own studies do not cloud my belief. I learned the mechanic of death and the after effects of death. The body dies in stages and that’s what I learn’t. I used case studies, information, accidental and purposeful mummification.

We live, we die. There is no changing that, nothing, no matter how hard we try but I trust that I will have an afterlife though I could not prove this, I have my own stories and while I am intrigued by death I do not know what will happen when I die but I believe in an afterlife.

Believe what you want too, never let anyone change that. Religious or not, we all have to believe in something.

That’s it for tonight. Good night and sweet dreams.

Have an awesome Wednesday

Simone

Happy weekend guys.

Who is Ed Gein

Ed Gein is often described as a serial killer by any, while he was one of the sickest and most disturbing killers ever to come to the knowledge of the general public and has been the basis of fictional serial killers Buffalo Bill, Norman Bates and Leather Face because of what he did and what was found in his home when police entered it to find out the extent of his involvement in the disappearance of a local woman.

Verified Victims

Bernice Worden

Mary Hogan

Case Details

November 16th 1957 hardware store owner in Plainfiled Bernice Worden disappeared. Ed Gein was the last customer in the hardware store and the last to see Bernice. Police suspected Gein and when they entered his farm they found Worden’s decapitated body in a shed, hanging upside down with a crossbar at her ankles and ropes at her wrists. She had been shot by a.22 calibre rifle and her body showed post mortem mutilation.

During further searched police were horrified to find a plethora of morbid and strange trinkets.

  • Bones and bone fragments.
  • A wastebasket from human skin.
  • Human leather covering several chair seats.
  • Bed Posts decorated by human skulls.
  • Several female skull with the top sawn off (similar to whats done during an autopsy).
  • Bowls fashioned from human skulls.
  • Corset made from a female torso Skinned from sholders to waist.
  • Human leather leggings.
  • Human leather facemasks (made from a female head).
  • Mary Hogan’s (his other victim) face fashioned into a mask in a paper bag.
  • Bernice Worden’s entire head was in a burlap sack.
  • A plastic bag in front of Gein’s potbellied stove contained Worden’s heart.
  • Nine sets of vulvae hidden in a shoe box.
  • The dress of a young girl and two sets vulvae from two women estimated around fifteen years old.
  • A window shade drawstring sporting a pair of lips.
  • A belt made of human nipples
  • Four noses
  • A lampshade made from human leather created using human face skin.
  • Finger nails from female fingers.

During questioning Gein revealed that during the years between 1947 – 1952  he was taking moonlight trips to the graveyard, digging up recently buried remains and removing the mountain of body parts found in his home. He confessed to robing nine graves, telling the police and told them who digging up two of the graves police found the caskets were empty, one had a crow bar and the other was void of any remains. While checking three other graves the police found evidence revealed Gein would rob the graves before they had been properly filled in, out of the three graves checked one was untouched as he was unable to access the casket but lost his crowbar, one was empty and one had some body parts in it but not the whole body that had been buried.

Following Gein’s mothers death he had began creating a woman suit (hence the correlation between him and both Normal Bates and Buffalo Bill) so that he could be come her.

He denied having sex with the bodies due to the smell of the early stages of decomposition. He also admitted to the shooting death of Mary Hogan, tavern owner that had been missing since 1954 but later denied the memory of the details of her death.

He was considering as a suspect in several other unsolved cases in Wisconsin including the 1954 disappearance of La Crosse baby sitter Evelyn Hartley.

Gein’s confession was deemed as inadmissible due to Sheriff Art Schley reportedly shoving Geins head and face into a brick wall.

He was found not guilty of the two murders due to reasons of insanity and was sent to central state hospital (now Dodge correctional institute) then transferred to Mendota state hospital and he was diagnosed as schizophrenic.

He was found able to stand trial in 1968 and during the one week trial he revealed that he had no idea if the murder of Bernice was intentional or accidental and was found guilty of on Bernice’s death.

Gein died of complications due to cancer on July 26th 1984.

There is also speculation that he may have been involved the accidental death of his brother when he was younger.

Conclusion

As Gein has only two verified kills to his name, though he may have killed others but due to lack of evidence this can’t be confirmed, he is not a serial killer, as there is no evidence that both were committed with malice, planning and forethought. They couldn’t even prove if the killing happened accidentally or not, there was no evidence either way. Yes he was a killer, he was a grave robber, and he enjoyed using ‘human leather’ in his house hold and if he hadn’t have been caught soon after Bernice’s disappearance he may have continued to kill but no he wasn’t a serial killer, he wasn’t even close to reaching the kill counts of people such as Bundy, Dahmer, the West’s and so many others.

The Discovery

In the early hours of December 26th 1996 Patsy Ramsey awoke to pack and ready the family for a trip. Upon descending the spiral stairs she finds a  two and a half page letter on one of the bottom runs. The note tells her that her 6 year old daughter has been kidnapped and that they want $118,000 (the same amount as of John Ramsey’s Christmas bonus that year) to not call the police and that they’d be in touch.

She woke up her husband and told him his she could find JonBenet and that she had been taken. They called the police and then some family friends. Soon after the house was filled with members of the Boulder Police Department and the FBI along with Friends and family.

The chief investigating officer Linda Arndt asked John Ramsey to search the house at 1pm (MST) taking Fleet white with him they headed to the basement, John checked a room they called the wine cellar and found the infant under a blanket, he saw duct tape on her mouth he lifted her and took her upstairs into the maid room, removed the duct tape and Arndt checked for life, she found none and told the parents that she was gone

Cause of Death

The Autopsy revealed that the little girl had been hit over the head, which knocked her unconscious then she strangled several hours later with a garrote made from items within the house, if she had not been straggled the head injury would have taken her life. There was talk of vaginal injury but there was no rape, the ‘vaginal injury’ that people mention is probably due to the autopsy reveals that the young girl has a Hyperaemia, a Hyperaemia is a section of tissue that has an increased level of blood flow and is red and may bleed from time to time, this may have been an indication of a undiagnosed medical illness. This is questioned by many involved in the case. The autopsy report reveals that the Hymen is still intact and that the Hyperaemia travels past the hymen. There was urine staining of clothes, this is due to the muscles that keep the bladder closed relaxes after death, and there is semifluid present but it is generate from the victim and not from another.

Evidence

Ransom note

DNA found in the waist of the tights JonBenet was wearing along with DNA found in the panties the child was wearing

Shoe print in the mould on the floor of the room John Ramsey found her in.

The rope and broken brush that make up the garrote

Pineapple chucks in the child stomach

Suspects

Patsy and John Ramsey

  • Patsy cannot be discounted nor not proved to be the author of the letter.
  • The garrotte was made by one of her artist paint brushes.
  • Lawyered up soon after
  • Judgement over involving their child in beauty pageants
  • DNA absolved them from involvement in the death.

Burke Ramsey

  • Present at the time of death (in the house).
  • Strange/odd emotions in the interview he did with Dr Phil in September of 2016 and in interviews with authorizes after her sister’s death.
  • Some state that he was too young to cause the damage to the infant’s skull. (refer to Mary Bell aged 11, John Venables aged 11, Robert Thompson aged 11, Jordan brown aged 11, Eric Smith aged 13, and especially Derek and Alex King aged 12 and 13 respectfully who were very small who hit their father over the head with a baseball bat and killed him, setting fire to the house to hide their crime who were of a similar size and stature of Burke at the time his sister’s death.
  • DNA cleared him of his sister’s murder.

Michael Helgoth

  • Committed suicide several months after JonBenet’s death, days after the news when the detective told the killer, via the media, that he would find the killer and lock them up.
  • Videotaped confession found in his belongings.
  • A shoe that matched the shoe print in the basement.
  • DNA cleared him.

Bill McReynolds (Santa)

  • Santa at the Ramsey’s Christmas part that year.
  • Daughter was kidnapped 22 years before.
  • Cleared By DNA

There were another 140 unnamed suspects who were investigated throughout the years and all were cleared by the DNA found in the waist band of the tights/leggings and panties/knickers (as we call them in the UK)

What’s needed

  • Deeper analysis of JonBenet’s clothes for DNA not usually seen during searches for fluids (touch DNA).
  • Clearing up any sexual assault information. As I have above.
  • Try to identify anyone who had issues with John Ramsey and knew of their comfortable life style.
    • Also could be known by JonBenet, so she would have trusted them.
  • Analysis of angle of the impact to JonBenet’s head. This may yield the height and if the killer is left or right height headed.
  • Familial DNA Search.

Issues with the case

  • Unsecured scene with too much foot traffic.
  • Incomplete searches done.
  • Lost forensic evidence.
  • Tunnel vision
    • Concentrated on the family and not following any leads that leads away from the family
    • Slandered and dragged the Ramsey’s in the public eye.
    • Continuation of this, they want to speak with Burke despite him being cleared.
    • Intruder theory wasn’t looked at dismissed despite of footprints being near the body that didn’t match anyone in the house.

My Conclusion

The Ramsey’s were not involved someone who knew the Ramsey’s did this to make them feel pain after they felt like they had been done wrong in some way, it was someone the JonBenet knew, they knew the house, they probably feed JonBenet the pineapple, attacked her, knowing her out, wrote the ransom note planning on taking her with them but realized that they couldn’t so killed her and left her in a little known room.

While it is possible for children of a young age to kill I don’t feel that Burke had done this he talks of his sister with such a love that he wouldn’t hurt her. If the angle of the head injury revealed that he did this I would be shocked but I doubt this to be true. As for the voice on the 911 recording that everyone is thinking is Burke is saying ‘what did you do’ I think it is a stretch, much like ghost hunters who do EVP’s that to most make no sense but others hear words.

Burke’s odd behavior during the Dr Phil interview is due to social awkwardness  though I am not trained I would say he has Asperger’s or suffers from a lasting affect from losing his sisters.

Will it ever be solved??

I doubt it, too much damage has been done, too much has gone wrong.

Have a good night

Simone

Its that time of year again, kids are running around, getting candy, oh to be a child again. I’m still recovering from a nasty cold that has hit me pretty hard, damn things.

I love Halloween, as a pagan and a Goth its an important holiday an I celebrate my own little way. I love the spookiness of it and I love the meaning behind it.

Check out here for he Pagan meaning and significance of October 31st.

Sorry its not a big post, my mind is willing but my body falters.

Have a spooky night.

Simone

I have been thinking about posting videos and blog posts using my forensic background and looking at unsolved murder cases and doing a series around this. I haven’t come up with a name yet but hopefull i will soon. I have a draft of the first two already, one being JoBenêt Ramsey, ths second being if Ed Gien is acually a serial killer. I have some videos planned and hopefully I can record them soon. I’ll be using the camera on my Sony m4, it is a decent camera, until i can afford a new camera to use for video.

I enjoyed doing my degree so much and I loved doing my dissertation. It was three years oc my life and I proved several doubters wrong when I got my degree with honnors. I loved it and would do it again in aheart beat.

My degree is in Forensic Science and Criminaology and I did some interesting assignments including looming at the Sally Clarke case, the death of Billie Jo Jenkins, if the war criminals tried at Nuremburg were mistreated during trial, how your social standing affects what type of criminal act you will comit.

I did have the misfortune with one of my teachers. She broke university rules by making us buyher boom for the course and her attitude was unlikeable to virls and she never spoke to anyone. I hated her.

I had three teachers that I loved and I enjoyed thier classes including my advisor and the teacher I worked with my dissertation.

I love what I’m doing. Including my cross stitch and crochet.

Let me know what you think.

Happy Tuesday

Simone

Here is the cover for my November 15th release and I love it.

The young lady on the cover is a good friend of mine and acted as my muse on thus book. There are a few things that are here in the book but there are little differences. I have been working on this book for two year and the mother of the lady on the cover (who’s also my best friend) helped with the beta reading..

I am so excited. I can’t wait.

Happy writing

Simone

Hello guys

In a little over a month I have another release and I can’t wait. Hell Hath No Fury has been in the making for two years and the young lady on the cover is a good friend of mine and I can’t wait to see what Rue does withe cover. I am blessed to have her do my covers as she is a pure artist when it comes to covers.

I am also planning some videos for my YouTube channel and I am looking forward to making some promo items for the release and I have some awesome things planned.

The book is something that I loved writing and my beta reader, the mother of the lady on the cover and my best friend, loved it too. Thankfully I am in awe of those around me who help. My publisher has faith in me and loves my work and I am slowly building a fan base of people who love my work, including my Mum, who loves my writing.

I am thankful for the people I have in my life that support my work as a writer.

Thank you all

Happy writing

Simone

Hi guys

I’ve been hard at and I am busy. With a visit from my Mum and the impending release has me finishing my work. I now have a beta reader and I love her for the help she has given me, she is awesome.

I am so excited about this, the things I have planned for this is immense and i really cant wait to show you what I am going to be making. The cover release will happen so and I know that it will be awesome as always, Rue is a genius when it come to covers and I love every single one she has done for us.

I also have some fun planned for Halloween. I’m always in a cave when writing and it sucks because I’m cut off from anything, I hate not being near my computer while the writing urge has me in it’s grips.

Six weeks until release day, six weeks, I still have to pinch myself when I see my books on out TARDIS coffee table and I really hope that I can continue to release books people want to read, I am working hard on several projects to get me into the minds of readers and I have some videos planned that will use my training and my liking of horror to take my YouTube channel into a few new directions. I really can’t wait. Just working on a few things I need to do before I can share but these next two months are going to be busy for me.

Have an awesome week

Simone

Evening everyone,

It’s Saturday and three days off my birthday, and I can’t wait. I am really looking forward to it and I have a little surprise in store but I’ll save that for the day but stay tuned.

Today I want to talk about allowing reality and real life events affect any story or book you want to share with anyone. Now this can be intentional or unintentional and providing there is no case for slander then, in most cases, it’s fine.

For example, in my next installment of Poisoned By Blood I have mentioned and had some involvement with a real admitted serial killer that has been dead for nearly thirty years. The  serial killer in question is one of the most notorious and vile of the subgroup within society. Because he is a person that was and that he confessed to his crimes I am not slandering his character so I wouldn’t be at risk of being sued by his family.

There are traditional media programs that also do this, a perfect example is the central character of Murdoch Mysteries, William Murdoch, is based on the real life Ontario Provisional Police John Wilson Murray.  There is also, Call the Midwife, Orange is the New Black, Band of Brothers, The Tudors, Boardwalk Empire, and The Secret, all based in some way on real events that have happened in the past. There have been movies based on serial killers, along with real serial killers influencing people to create memorable fictional killers that we all know and love.

There are times where it happens without people realizing that they have done it. I am quiet good at note doing this. The only time I’ve let a person I know influence a character is one of the characters in my latest release, the person I am basing the character on knows and is fully aware that I am doing it. The same lady is going to be on the cover and allowed me to use a few of her little quirk, only a few, have made it into the books but this was purposeful and I love the way that the book is looking and I can’t wait to share it with you, I really can’t.

So overall, you can use real people in your fictional books, if it is people that you know get permission before you go ahead, if it is someone who’s in the public eye such as a celebrity, serial killer, etc then it isn’t too bad. So many writers use actors to decide the physicality of a character but the behavior and such are built separately.

Have an awesome weekend.

Happy writing

Simone

Morning readers,

It’s the dreaded Monday morning again and the work week has begun all over again. I am at home with my husband, who’s fast asleep after a night shift and my mum whos visiting for a week and it occured to me that my own creative mind is a complicated one, very compicated.

You all know about my writing and my books as you have all been treated from time to time to shorts I post here but you have little knowledge of my other creative outlets. I draw, not well but I draw. I also enjoy taking photo’s of various things, I love the gothic beauty of cemetery photography as well as the beauty of nature’s own creative mind.

immanual grave yard 301114

This photo was taken at a relatives home in the south of England and its a beautiful flower in ths summer sun.

My creative mind is rarely quiet and it keeps me active, even when I’m meant to be asleep. Mind you with my body being a mess my mind being sharp is a small price to pay. I love my mind, I just wish that I could sleep when I need to not when my mind wants me too.

I love my creativity and I always will, I may not be able to draw or paint but I sure as hell can paint a picture with words, my words can conjure up a picture of what ever it is I need.

Any way, this summer heat is making me sweat so I’m going to switch of the laptop and eat my cherries.

Have a excellent night

Simone. ❤
